Returning to the dormitory, they were all a bit tipsy, but Hao Ren was relatively sober.
Originally, he wanted to stay in the dormitory with Zhao Jiayin when such an incident occurred. However, he also missed his grandmother who had just been discharged from the hospital and wanted to seek Zhao Guang's opinion on this matter, so he decided to take the documents and head over to Zhao Yanzǐ’s place.
By the time he arrived at Zhao Yanzǐ's home, it was already past 7 pm. Zhao Hongyu had just finished cleaning up the dining table and was watching TV with Hao Ren's grandmother, chatting amicably.
Hao Ren felt surprised when he saw his grandmother looking radiant upon entering the room.
"Aren, we were still talking about you, wondering if you'd come today," said his grandmother sitting on the sofa, smiling cheerfully at Hao Ren.
"There was something going on in school today, so I'm a bit late. How is your health" asked Hao Ren.
His grandmother answered in a clear and loud voice, "Haha! It's better than ever; my blood pressure has even dropped!"
Hao Ren noticed that his grandmother indeed looked much better and did not appear to be someone who had just recovered from a serious illness. She seemed younger than before her hospitalization.
Zhao Hongyu stood by the side of Hao Ren's grandmother, smiling but silent.
"In reality, it’s all because of Red Jade's care. She has been making chicken soup for me every day these past two days, so my recovery is better than ever!" his grandmother said while looking at Zhao Hongyu.
Hao Ren wondered if Zhao Hongyu had put some miraculous medicine in the chicken soup since her smile suggested that it was possible. Of course, it might also be because Hao Ren's grandmother was in a good mood, which helped speed up her recovery.
Seeing his grandmother getting healthier and healthier, Hao Ren finally felt at ease. He asked Zhao Hongyu, "Where is Azi"
"She’s upstairs doing homework. You go up, I’ll chat with your grandma for a while longer," said Zhao Hongyu gently.
“Alright!” Hao Ren carried the documents and went up the stairs.
He glanced back at Zhao Hongyu and his grandmother in the living room and found them getting along very well, even better than his grandmother's relationship with her own daughter-in-law. This world is indeed full of wonders.
Hao Ren arrived outside Zhao Yanzǐ’s bedroom door and quietly opened it to find Zhao Yanzǐ lying on the desk, engrossed in doing homework.
Upon hearing him come in, she turned around, saw Hao Ren, and immediately huffed.
"What's wrong Did I do something that upset you" Hao Ren walked over and returned to her a few textbooks she had lent him previously.
"My mom cooked a lot of the dishes you like, but you said over the phone that you couldn't make it," Zhao Yanzǐ pouted and said.
"Oh" Hao Ren didn’t know about this and was somewhat surprised, then moved by her words.
"There were some things at school today, so I wasn’t able to come over," Hao Ren sat beside her and explained as he pulled out the study materials from his bag.
Zhao Yanzǐ puffed up like a blowfish and ignored Hao Ren.
"This Friday is the midterm exams at school, right" Hao Ren asked her.
“Mm-hmm,” Zhao Yanzǐ nodded slightly in response.
She was wearing a floral dress top paired with khaki-colored shorts; she looked lively and playful yet extra sweet. Her delicate little body exuded a faint fragrance after bathing, lightly stimulating Hao Ren's sense of smell.
Indeed, the daughter of the renowned designer Zhao Hongyu; even casual attire at home was put together so nicely.
"Let’s go over everything one last time then," Hao Ren spread out his materials and said.
After reviewing Zhao Yanzǐ's textbooks she had given him, Hao Ren now clearly understood their current academic progress in the second year of junior high school, as well as which knowledge points were most important. He could give her a more precise tutoring direction for this upcoming midterm exam.
This time, Zhao Yanzǐ did not argue and obediently followed Hao Ren's review plan. Today’s private lesson was the smoothest one since he started teaching her.
Hao Ren felt that Zhao Yanzǐ really wanted to learn today. It seemed she planned on taking this midterm exam seriously.
After going over important points in each subject, two hours passed unnoticed.
Suddenly stopping the lesson, Hao Ren told her, "You should get some rest early; I’m off to see my grandmother."
“Okay,” Zhao Yanzǐ nodded and started organizing today’s notes.
Seeing her obedient behavior, Hao Ren was momentarily stunned, almost doubting if the person in front of him was truly Zhao Yanzǐ.
He quietly left the room and went to visit his grandmother next door.
"Did you finish tutoring Ah Zi" His grandmother was lying on her bed but not asleep; she seemed to know Hao Ren would come see her.
"Yes, I’ll cover what’s left in the coming days," Hao Ren replied and sat by his grandmother's bedside.
“Ah Ren, I feel that your relationship with Ah Zi’s family is more than just tutoring. When I asked Hongyu about it, she always said you were only Ah Zi's tutor,” His grandmother looked at him, “Are you hiding something from me”
"Uh... nothing much," Harker shook his head, "I just have a very good relationship with their family."
"Alright then. No matter what happens, the Red Jade family saved my mother's life, so you must do your best to tutor Young Miss Purple," Granny kindly patted Harker's shoulder and said.
During her stay at Zhao Hongyu’s home these few days, the Zhao family treated her like their own elders with great respect and care, making Granny feel that they were truly virtuous people.
The little Purple would come every morning and evening to pay her respects. Not only did she wake her up in the mornings for breakfast, but also asked about her health when she returned from school in the evenings. This made Granny think of how gentle and understanding this little Purple was, growing fonder of her with each passing day.
Granny had already decided that even if she were to recover and move back to the seaside in the future, their relationship with the Zhao family wouldn’t end there. Moreover, she planned for her son to become acquainted with Mr. Zhao Guang’s family as well. No matter how busy they got with work in the future, they would have to make time to maintain relationships with them so that both families could be connected.
Unfortunately, Purple was a few years younger and Harker had no emotional bond with her; otherwise, if their ages matched up, it wouldn’t be bad for them to become a couple… Slowly, Granny’s old-fashioned ideas resurfaced again, thinking rather happily about this possibility.
She felt that Hongyu couldn't marry into the family as Harker's wife but could still become a close relative-in-law which would make everything perfect.
A pity though, Purple was just too young to be Harker’s girlfriend.
Harker didn’t know about Granny’s thoughts and continued chatting casually with her. He talked about his school life as he usually did when he visited the seaside before.
This went on for another half an hour until it was time for him to head back to school.
Granny, who was very reluctant to see Harker leave, said with great affection, "Hongyu just told me that you can stay here tonight and sleep in my room or the design studio upstairs."
"It’s okay Grandma. I still want to go back to school. It's not good to always be away," Harker tried to persuade her.
He was worried about Yu JiaYin’s mood, wanting to return and comfort him again.
"You’re right, it wouldn’t look good if you weren't staying at the dorm regularly. So head back early." Granny hoped that Harker could stay overnight but didn’t want him to neglect his studies either.
“Alright, Grandma, have a good rest. Anyway, I'll be here tomorrow.” Harker got up from the bed and looked around this newly cleaned room before heading out of the door.
Harker saw the light still on in the study next to the living room downstairs from the second floor corridor and thought Mr. Zhao Guang hadn’t gone to sleep yet, so he went down the stairs to see him. Indeed, Mr. Zhao was wearing an oversized shirt and was reviewing documents in the open study.
Harker walked up to the study door and knocked on it.
Mr. Zhao looked up at Harker and nodded slightly, “Come in.”
"Uncle, I have something to discuss with you," said Harker as he entered the study and glanced at the clock which read nearly 10 PM.
Harker thought privately that Purple’s father always appeared rather serious but was indeed busy handling matters. He wasn’t sure if such a small matter from school would annoy him.
"Go ahead," said Mr. Zhao as he put down what he was holding and looked at Harker.
"Well, it's like this, a classmate in my dorm got into a fight with someone from the school basketball team today..."
Hao Ren told Mr. Zhao Guang everything that had happened; Zhao Guang sat on the chair facing Hao Ren and listened quietly without showing any unusual expressions.
"So this is what happened Did you also get involved in the fight" When Hao Ren finished speaking, Zhao Guang asked.
Hao Ren nodded. After all, Zhao Guang wasn't his father. Asking Zhao Guang to help him felt awkward.
Moreover, because of his grandmother's matter, he had already troubled them once before and his grandmother was still staying with them now. Asking for their help again this time due to something at school made Hao Ren feel that he had already overstepped the bounds, so he was even more concerned that Zhao Guang would think him greedy.
"For這種事情, you don't need to come to me." Zhao Guang looked at Hao Ren and said coldly.
Hao Ren's heart sank. It turned out that he had upset Zhao Guang.
"Tomorrow you go find Lu Qing," he continued.
Just as Hao Ren was about to leave with a red face, Zhao Guang spoke again: "But I'll give the principal a call later on and inform him about this matter. Your classmate is named Zhao Jiayin, right"
A glimmer of hope flared up in Hao Ren's heart as he looked at the cold-faced but willing-to-help Zhao Guang and thanked him: "Yes, thank you Uncle!"
"It's fine. After hearing your story, I think you guys aren't entirely wrong either, so I also hope that the school can handle this matter fairly. Anyway, be more careful in the future." Zhao Guang looked up at the clock on the wall and asked, "Are you going to stay here tonight"
"No need, I’ll go back to school early," Hao Ren said.
“I still have a lot of things to take care of over here. Will it be alright for you to take the bus home by yourself” Zhao Guang asked.
“It will be fine! Thank you Uncle!” Hao Ren turned around and left the study room.
He went back upstairs, entered Zhao Yanzi's room, intending to get his tutoring materials. He found that Zhao Yanzi was lying face down on her desk, already fast asleep.
Hao Ren tiptoed over to the desk and looked at her red hands and face pressed onto the table. He thought to himself that she really had been working hard for this mid-term exam; he had never seen her study so diligently before.
Seeing how soundly she was sleeping, Hao Ren felt reluctant to disturb her, but he worried about her catching a cold or waking up with a sore back. So after some consideration, he bent down and lifted her gently, one hand under her knees and the other on her back.
Zhao Yanzi seemed to be in deep sleep, as she did not wake up when Hao Ren picked her up; she remained still and breathing evenly with eyes closed.
Holding this soft Zhao Yanzi, Hao Ren lowered his head to smell her fragrance. Moving a few steps, he transferred her into her bed, pulled the blanket over her and then took his tutoring materials. Tiptoeing out of the room, he turned off the main light but left a bedside lamp on, before closing the door.
And as soon as the door clicked shut, "sleeping" Zhao Yanzi slowly opened her eyes, her face turning red in an instant.firm, indicating that what he said wasn’t mere flattery. The car sped along the beach road and then entered the city area.
